Default Underhood switch

2013 Limited conv w/ 3.6 V6: Can anyone tell me what the switch under the hood is for? It is spring loaded and located near the passenger side headlight. More specifically, it is mounted to the upper cross member and connects with a dome-shaped receiver on the underside of the hood so that the switch activates when the hood is opened. I assume this is for an underhood light--what else would you have under a hood that would activate when you open the hood? However, there doesn't appear to be an underhood light (or evidence of prior mounting or wiring) anywhere. Perhaps it's some sort of safety switch--disabling something when the hood is opened? But what? Eager to hear others' thoughts on this. Thanks!
